Cambugahay Falls

One of the best tourist destinations of the famed Isla del Fuego, or commonly known as Siquijor is the Cambugahay Falls.

It is located at Lazi, Siquijor. The place can be reached either by river or forest trek. Secluded and relatively unexplored, the waterfall beckons trekkers for a refreshing dip.  One can also enjoy vine swinging and drop directly to the awaiting fresh waters on the first fall.  There are three levels of waterfalls. The first waterfall is shallow. The second and third levels are a much deeper part of the falls. More adventurous folks can also jump off the waterfalls.

What's in a Name?

While resting from the hike down the falls, I happen to ask some natives. I asked them when the falls was discovered, why is it named as such, and who's the operator and developer.  Cambugahay was discovered in the year 2001.  The name was coined out the word "Nagbuhagay". The word means flowing in Cebuano. The waters of Cangclaran, Poo, Cabalasanan, all of the town of Lazi, joined and thus, it formed the waterfalls.  As of the present, it is under the operations of Coco Grove Resort.

Being part of the adventure, I only had a short time exploring the place and experiencing the breeze created by nature.  I found the place to be a perfect venue for those who want to experience nature in the rawest. The whistling and vibrant sound of the air  and the chirping of the birds creates music to my ears. The rustling of leaves and the rumbling sound of the falls adds to the beauty of it. I know that the way up to my waiting van is taxing. I'd have to labor the 135 steep steps. But I assure you, it's worth the legwork. If you are a naturalist, that completes the aura.  Whenever you are fed up of the humdrum and buzzes of city life, I recommend Cambugahay Falls. This place is worth an escape. TRY LIFE, TRY CAMBUGAHAY.
